What can I wear to a “Glam Rock” themed Gala?

That’s the most common question we’ve gotten this past week. So as a public service to all, we’ll be doing a little info session everyday this week on glam rock, its history and how that translates to your outfit choice in a few weeks. ( tickets on sale now ).

First off, the Gala is basically our semi-formal club night. It’s a time for us to all dress up and have a night out with the other members, fear not it doesn’t mean halloween level costumes (but eh, if thats your thing, go for it). The theme is just meant to inspire you to get creative and have some fun. Check out on our website for what people have worn to past years with themes such as 1920s/Gatsby, 007/James Bond, Studio54/Disco, 50s/Enchantment Under the Sea.

So some background, glam rock was a musical style that peaked around 1971-1974. A short flash in the pan when it comes to genre’s but a far reaching influential one that was not just about rock music, but also about style and spectacle. Glam started in the UK and played with breaking gender roles and showmanship. Bands and acts associated with glam pretty much evolved or influenced many genres to follow, from punk, new wave and even hair metal.
