Glam Rock Style Guide Entry #1:

Marc Bolan & T. Rex

Tyrannosaurus Rex started off with an acoustic folkier sound, much like Bowie. The similarities didn’t end there. Bowie and Bolan also had the same manager and producer. Bolan had even played guitar for one of Bowie’s early pre-glam singles. A name shortening to T Rex signaled a stylistic change for the band musically and physically. And the release of their single “Ride the White Swan” is often considered the start of the glam rock movement.

Once a catalog model, Bolan was no stranger to being a pretty boy. On stage, in the glam era he was known for wearing top hats, boas, eye make-up and glitter on his face paired with flashy suit jackets. Perhaps not as outlandish as Bowie’s Ziggy Star, Bolan’s Zinc Alloy persona had a style all his own. Sadly this jeepster for your love died in a car accident in 1979.

Google him for some inspiration and check out some of T Rex’s hits like “Metal Guru”, “20th Century Boy”, “Jeepster”, “Children of the Revolution”, “Teenage Dream” “Cosmic Dancer” and “Get it On” (perhaps more famously covered by Power Station in the 80s )
